Tirzepatide is the newest generation of medical weight loss therapy, and in clinical trials it has produced the largest average weight loss of any non-surgical treatment available.
Two hormones, not one
Semaglutide activates a single receptor (GLP-1). Tirzepatide activates two, GLP-1 and GIP. Working together, they:
- Suppress appetite more completely than GLP-1 alone
- Improve how efficiently your body handles insulin and stores fat
- Slow digestion so you feel full on far less food
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, adults on the highest dose lost an average of about 21% of their body weight over 72 weeks, roughly 50 lbs for a 240 lb man.
What treatment looks like
Tirzepatide is a once-weekly self-administered injection. As with semaglutide, we start low and titrate up in steps over several weeks so your body has time to adapt. You'll see a provider regularly for dose adjustments, side-effect management, and body composition checks.
We pair the medication with a protein-forward nutrition target and resistance training guidance, because on any GLP-1 therapy a meaningful share of unmanaged weight loss can come from lean muscle. Protecting muscle is what keeps your metabolism intact after you finish.
Side effects
The profile is similar to semaglutide (nausea, constipation, diarrhea, reduced appetite) and, again, mostly dose-related and temporary. Slow titration and active management keep the majority of patients comfortable.
Who should not take it
Tirzepatide isn't appropriate for patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2, a history of pancreatitis, or during pregnancy. We screen thoroughly at your consultation.
Is it worth the cost?
Tirzepatide typically costs more than semaglutide. For some patients the additional effectiveness is clearly worth it; for others, semaglutide reaches their goal perfectly well for less. We'll be straight with you about both (including exact monthly pricing) before you decide.
Self-pay service. Full pricing is reviewed with you up front.
