Getting tested is one of the most straightforward things you can do for your health, and the reason most people don't isn't cost or availability. It's discomfort. We've built this to remove that.
Confidential means confidential
Your visit, your testing and your results are protected health information. We don't discuss your care with anyone without your written authorization. Our office is private and our providers handle this routinely. There is no reaction waiting for you here.
What we test for
- Chlamydia and gonorrhea: the two most common bacterial STIs, and frequently symptomless
- Syphilis: rising sharply nationally, and fully curable when caught
- HIV: with modern testing and modern treatment, an early diagnosis changes everything
- Hepatitis B and C
- Herpes (HSV-1 and HSV-2) where clinically appropriate
- Trichomoniasis
When to get tested
- After any unprotected sexual encounter
- After a new partner, or on a regular schedule if you have multiple partners
- If a partner tells you they've tested positive
- If you have symptoms: discharge, burning with urination, sores, rash, testicular pain
- Before starting a new relationship, as a matter of routine
- Annually, as a baseline, if you're sexually active
Important: most STIs produce no symptoms at all. Feeling fine is not evidence of anything. That's precisely why routine testing exists.
Timing matters
Every infection has a window period, the time between exposure and when a test can reliably detect it. Testing too early produces a false negative and false reassurance. We'll tell you exactly when to test based on when the exposure occurred, and when to retest if needed.
If a result is positive
Most STIs are straightforward to treat, and several are curable with a single course of antibiotics. We'll explain the result, start treatment, discuss partner notification, and schedule a test of cure where it's indicated. No lecture: just the plan.
