Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a regenerative therapy that uses a high concentration of a patient's own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tissue. Because it is made from your own blood, there is nothing foreign to react to.
How it works
Platelets are best known for clotting, but they also carry the growth factors the body uses to signal repair. A small blood draw is spun in a centrifuge to separate and concentrate them, and that concentrate is injected precisely where healing is needed. The signal that would normally arrive slowly and in small amounts arrives all at once.
What we use it for
- Injured tendons, ligaments and joints, where healing has stalled
- Male pattern baldness, where PRP into the scalp can thicken existing hair and prolong the growth phase
- Sexual health, to enhance size, sensitivity and function of the genitalia in men and women
- Skin quality and scarring, often alongside other aesthetic treatments
What a session is like
A blood draw, roughly fifteen minutes of processing, then the injection. Numbing is used where it is needed. Most patients are in and out inside an hour and return to normal activity the same day, with some soreness at the treated area for a day or two.
PRP works by prompting repair rather than by adding something, so results build over weeks rather than appearing immediately. A course of treatments is usual rather than a single visit.
Honest expectations
PRP is a genuine regenerative tool and it is not magic. Evidence is strongest for tendon and joint problems and for hair restoration, and the quality of preparation matters a great deal. Results vary with what is being treated, how long it has been going on, and your own biology. We will tell you at consultation whether we think you are a good candidate.
